Lift Her Voice.
Amber Dawn
One of the reasons Pigtopia is here today, and our mission statement is "A better world for pigs & people through compassion" is because of my friend Amber. on October 23, 2020, she lost her life to domestic violence. She was murdered by her husband.
Amber was one of the first people I met online when I got a pig 7 years ago. After getting Ellie, I’d decided I wanted to try to go vegan and posted about it...we started talking and Amber answered my many questions, encouraged me, wasn’t judgey and made it seem so perfectly doable in a no nonsense way. She was not at all what I had imagined a vegan would act or be like-she wasn’t pushy or rude or perfectionist- she just embraced her awesome uniqueness and told it like it was. As time went on I remained vegan in part because of her guidance and later started Pigtopia; with our core principle as a better world for people and pigs through compassion. It’s the kind of compassion that Amber gave myself and so many others. I can’t even begin to comprehend how many people and animal’s lives she has touched for the better. I look to her example for compassion and inclusiveness as the way to reach people where they are, and as a pig mom I’m always reminded to treasure every moment with my pigren and take as many pictures as I possibly can.
Amber gave her last and greatest gift: life to 5 people on a transplant list. Even in leaving this world, she helps others. She lives on in them, and leaves a legacy of compassion.
With brave wings she flies, and all left here will fight for her and every other woman suffering silently from domestic violence.
If you or someone you know is in danger, do not wait to reach out for help.
